David Baker’s Pleasure

We Millers met David Baker at Horse Progress Days this June and he shared these photos of enjoyments back home in England.

Plowing (ploughing) with his three Percherons on a U.S. built Pioneer plow.

These two photos picture the plow converted to a Ransome TS 90 bottom with sliding bar point. He said that the British soil is so sticky that the Oliver Raydex point and share did not work as well for him as the longer moldboard and barpoint of the Ransome.

Note the inch square bar or rod passing towards plow point. As the share point wears this bar is adjusted by sliding forward.

Spring 2000 found David Baker harrowing a five acre field in Ovingdean, England with three Percherons and one Suffolk Punch. The church in the background was built in 1086 AD. and the flint wall was constructed by French prisoners of war after the fall of Napoleon.
